Tim is a Ministry Assistant at Ascension. This means he works for an allowance and accommodation instead of a salary. He isn't a vicar in training, although some Ministry Assistants have been in the past. The role of an MA is all about gaining experience, developing gifts, exploring calling and contributing to church life - usually for a year.
The specific job of a Ministry Assistant depends largely on who is doing it at the time. For Tim it primarily involves:
- Producing flyers, posters, notice sheets and cartoons
- Maintaining the new website which he designed and built
- Making people's Staff Member of the Month videos
- Being a Street Pastor in Balham and helping to co-ordinate the Balham SPs
- Fiddling with computers to make them work properly
- Opening up, locking up and tidying up on Sundays
- And much, much more (oops, cheesy line)
It's all part of the life of an MA. To assist in ministry. Which is a lovely thought, isn't it?
